I have very mixed views about Los Globos. This unique venue has a diverse range of events that definitely suit Silverlake’s grungy artsy hipster vibe. Because many nights are all ages or 18+, Los Globos draws a much younger crowd that may be a turnoff to anyone that’s been in the scene for a while. My recent visit was disappointing as I paid approximately $23 for a ticket online, only to be told at the door that the event was free after 10pm. If you’re going to charge online for tickets, at least keep the price throughout the night or be clearer on the website. I was thrilled my friend got in for free, but felt a little cheated. Regardless, I think this is a great venue for very specific events. I came for an art showcase which I loved. The upstairs room was filled with raw talent and lower level stage had a marvelous runway show. On other occasions, I believe most nights consist of new dj’s from high schools that seem to be jamming out on stage and many of their friends come to show support. I think there could be huge potential for Los Globos to keep Silverlake’s legacy thriving with more events related to the arts, but from recent visits I wasn’t impressed.
